This was a fascinating read. I was very enthralled for the first five or six chapters. Then it started to get hard to read. Jeannette is a very gifted writer and her ability to see right from wrong and even have compassion at such an early age intrigued me and I wanted to find out what happened to her and how she and her siblings pulled through the catastrophe that was her childhood.

It was hard to sift through all the dirt, swearing, muck, perverts, etc., to find the gems. But they are there. And they keep you going. Near the end, however, I was struggling.

Nevertheless, I am struck by her ability to see and focus on the good or positives that came from her home and even to see the good and positives in life and people.
