bookshelves: fiction, unfinished

This book, a murder mystery set in Victorian London, has lots of potential. Unfortunately, that potential is drowned in its sheer length. After reading 60 pages, I have to give up. It's boring. There are the beginnings of a story brewing, but basically nothing of significance has happened.
