I was on holiday in Scotland and this was on the bookshelf in the chalet were staying in. Having read 1984 I was interested in reading other Orwell's classics and with Animal Farm being popular reading material, I didn't see why not to give it a chance.
I read it in a day.
For the first time in a long time I picked up a book and couldn't put it down. That's what I enjoy about Orwell's writing. Its very easy to read and very addictive. I'm not a learned person when it comes to politics, so although it was obvious it was a political story, it didn't hinder me when I read it.
I certainly would have enjoyed studying this book in detail at school (had it been on the curriculum) because of it's underlying politics, but even not knowing any of it's background its a very good read.
I can say when I get vocal whilst reading a book usually is a good thing. I did let out a few 'ah-has', 'oh-nos' and 'those dern pigs' on more than a few occasions. As well as a loud sigh as I read t...more
