I want to preface this review by saying that I am a fan of Feist's early work. This book was a disappointment to me. For one, all of the plot devices that Feist frequents are done to death in all of his other books (mostly "something really terrible is threatening the planet so lets go beat all the odds and kick it's ass"). There was also very little in this book, as far as number of pages, that was truly entertaining. I really don't understand why this book and the second in this series weren't combined into one average sized book (minus all of the filler, which this book was full of). Wait, I just figured it out ($$). This book really felt like a connector book (or probably series) between two much more entertaining series. I also didn't like the characters in this book. None of them really felt like real people to me. The only one that even came close was the human necromancer, and he ended up acting like an automaton by the end (at least in my opinion). Overall, I didn't like this book very much but I will probably read the next in the series just to see what happens.
