This book does an amazing job of taking a clear look at modern China in light of its long and complex history, showing a love and sensitivity for its people, while at the same time taking an honest look at the negatives present. The author seemed to do an excellent job of being objective in a way that looks more deeply into the lives of the people, trying to see to the truth of their daily experiences and to what their future as a nation may hold. It's also just well written in a narrative form that carries you through the book with very little effort. I enjoyed the fact that he includes some Chinese (that he explains) when this was further revelatory to who the Chinese people are.

Now I'm going to listen to the original radio reports by the author.
