A little slow, a little predictable in its intrigue, and only *just* fantasy in no more. The 'fantastic' elements could be removed with virtually no alteration to the plot.

One major concern I had was in the translation. If I were Mssr Pevel, I would be absolutely livid at the clumsy, ungrammatical, and poorly structured nature of this translation. It probably cost the book a star on this review, simply because I often had to reread a passage just to work out what was going on.
