 rating: 2 of 5 stars When I read this book By: Louis Sachar, called "Holes" I had people look at it a and tell me "oh thats such a good book" and "The movie is great" and they would comment on the award it won and how it won book of the year and all of that. All of this is the main reason that I read the book. Well I am going to o a short review on the book to show what I thought of the book and its sucess.
 
 The novel's plot I thought was not that good I goes back and forth in times throughout the story and it may get confusing. I would say that the genre is defiantly fiction and this book fits its genre because it is not very hard to fit in this genre. This book has a very interesting and unique theme that is "if you make a bad kid work hard it turns them into a good kid". This book has very many fun characters that you can relate to and they all have interesting names like "X-Ray" and "Dirtbag" and "Armpit" and they are all very enjoyable characters.
 
 The theme that the author uses in the book is very inique and you dont see very many books like it. How many books do you see that basically tells make a bad kid work hard and you'll see change? The author's tone throughout the book I would say is very dull or bored during his writing of the story. On the other hand his characterization in the book is great he explained the characters wonderfully and the characters played a major roll in the story.
 
 The sucess of the story is unbelievable though! I truthfully did not think that this book deserved to become the book of the year and to win an award and be turned into a movie. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes fiction and or long stories. I defiantley believe that this book only deserves a two or three star out of five.

I'm surprised you didn't like this Drew, but to each his own I guess! Your point about the confusing plot line is a fair one. Hope you find something you like better next time...
