Its not often that a book actually lives up to the praise on its jacket. The back of the ARC of The Gone Away World compares the writing style to that of Vonnegut and Heller. Catch 22 was one of the few "classics" that I loved on high school. If i were told that Heller had written this book, I would believe it in an instant. This is one of the greatest books I have ever read. It refuses to be categorized. The voice of the narrator is fresh, humorous, and very serious at once. There is one of the greatest plot twists I have ever had the joy of coming across. Any fan of post apocalyptic stories in general, or of Vonnegut or Heller specifically, needs to read this book. It should be mandatory to follow up a reading of Catch 22.
