One of my favorite authors but I didn't remember reading this until I started again. Enjoyed it. Sylvester is the Duke of Salford and well aware of his responsibilities and consequence. He has now decided it is time to marry so goes to his Mother with a list of possibilities. She is horrified that he would go about it so coldly and suggests he not marry until he marries for love. Not in his plans. It is suggested he meet Phoebe, the daughter of one of her old friends. He doesn't remember that he has met her at one of London's balls and was completely unimpressed.
Shy, unusual, Phoebe does remember him and her dislike of his haughtiness so when her step-mother tells her he is coming to ask for her hand she runs away, headed for her Grandmother in London. Fun, misunderstanding, almost farce at times.
