  rating: 4 of 5 stars<br/>The Underland Chronicles consist of five books whose purpose is to entertain you in the most unimaginable way. An eleven-year-old is a normal kid with normal family issuses until that fateful day when Gregor is sucked from his lawndry room and hurled into the Underland, an amazing world under the very streets of New York City. His role in the Overland is to attend school, look after Boots, his two-year-old sister, and keep yet another watchful eye on his grandma and Lizzie. To help keep the balance in their life is his mom. Without her nothing would make sense.
<br/>But in the Underland, he has a destiny to fulfil. Gregor the Overland Warrior must evade the rats and an array of other oversized, everyday creatures. The Warrior is mentioned in propehcies within a chamber in the Regalian city, the only city of humans. Sandwich, the hero who brought the Regalians to live in the Underland, was able to see into the future, and it was he who wrote the prophecies upon the chamber walls. All anyone knows is that the Warrior is of the Overland and that he would be the one to save them from a terrible fate, a fate to be decided by the rats.
<br/>Gregor denys many times throughout the book that he is the Warrior, but in the end, he's proven wrong by the mysterious prophecy of Sandwich. To be the Warrior means to give himself over to a world to a world in which he does not truly belong. He hates the Underlanders for dragging him into a life-threatning journey miles below the surface of the city.
<br/>Though he hates the Underlanders for all their worth, Gregor grows on the large variety of people ... and creatures. He must travel, as it is in the prophecy, with two gnawers (rats), spinners (spiders), crawlers (cockroaches), and a group of humans. The Warrior meets Luxa, queen-to-be, Henry, trusted cousin of Luxa, and, of course, Vikus, teacher of Luxa. Or is he?...
<br/>This is a violent, fantastical, and amazing read which I recommend to all! There's your eleven-year-old boy, violent and descriptive battle scenes, and a character we can all relate with, be it Luxa, Gregor, or even Vikus. The library is right down the street. Go and read this book!
