This was one of the few books I could not make myself read to the very end. I had reached about 1/3 into the book when I left it and moved onto other books. It was sitting there for two years in my house before I decided yesterday it was time for it to be passed on to another reader.
What I did not like about the narrator was something about her attitude towards other peoples and cultures. I can't pinpoint exactly what it was, it's been a while since I attempted to read the book, but that's more or less what has remained with me.

Beth I agree, I hated this book. For me, a memoir is only successful if the author either has an interesting story to tell, or the ability to tell it in an interesting manner. Sadly, this author fails at both. Her story had potential to be interesting, but it just wasn't, and she's a wretched storyteller.
