The one thing that stands out to me the most is how honest Judy Shepard is when she's retelling the childhood of her son, Matthew. She is honest and portrays not only the good aspects of her son, but also the traits and habits he had that were troublesome to her. Reading this book inspired me to be more vocal when it comes to hatespeech and bigotry. Judy is a inspiration to so many people, and we all should be thankful that she's strong and willing to help those that need it the most. A great book for someone to read who might be sitting on the fence when it comes to accepting alternative lifestyles. The only drawback is it needed to have a photo area so we could see Matthew and the people that meant so much to him.
