The Capture (Guardians of Ga'Hoole, Book 1) by Kathryn Lasky
this is a fun adventure story that starts the beginning of a series of books. They take you on a quest for truth and eventually good versus evil. I used to read this to my class of 4th graders every year and they always loved it. It got them really interested in different species of owls, and animals in the forest. Also, they always wanted more - it was a fun series to get them hooked on. The books get a little more sinister as the series continues, like every classic good vs. evil story goes, so maybe not for very young kids.
