Mixed feelings about this book... it was an interesting plot and definite page-turner, but just wasn't substantial. I feel like it's "just another book" I read this summer and will quickly forget about. The writing was extremely average. BLAH would be the right word to describe it.

The characters were way too predictable (except one) which made the plot predictable. The ending was so obvious. Marlene was really weak in terms of character development and her actual strength of character, which was really annoying to read.

My favorite part of this book was actually not the whole circus spiel, but present-day old Jacob. I think his perspective is much more interesting than any of the circus characters.

Overall, it's a very quick read, but it leaves you with a highly unsatisfying aftertaste.
