bookshelves: fantasy, favorites

I just finished reading this book again. I seldom do that, even for my favorite books, for some reason...but I'm glad I did in this case.

I took a look at some of the comments others made about this book. Things I was going to say here (amazingly poetic, evocative language, terrific ending looping back to the beginning, dreamlike and sometimes disturbing imagery...) has pretty much been said by others.

I was also interested to see comments that were clearly off the mark. Some readers just didn't get it. I can see why, (this book is somewhat open to interpretation) but it was a good lesson for me. I suppose the most sublime work can and will be inaccurately and unfairly criticized.

I recommend it solidly. There isn't anything else on my shelves quite like it...unless his newest, Book of Fire, turns out that way. I just got my copy and am looking forward to reading it soon.
