** spoiler alert ** Initially, I was very disappointed in the ending. I didn't understand why the Atlas only recorded the universe as it was just before total destruction when it could have recorded each section of the House as it was meant to be (with all the Denizens still alive...). I don't understand why the Mariner died after helping Arthur. I don't understand why the Piper chose to disappear. All in all, several events just didn't make sense. It almost makes sense for Arthur to lose someone important, just for the sake of drama and storytelling, but I could have done without his mother dying the way she did. Also, the original Architect makes me very glad that I don't believe in a god that would get bored with creation. It was a fitting end to the series. It was pretty much what I had started to suspect was going to happen.
