bookshelves: epic-fantasy, fantasy, literature, first-in-series, belton
Read in December, 2001

This is one of very few books that were not as good as the movie. This and the two sequels have weird asides with characters that only appear once and are never mentioned again. Legolas sings to a tree and a river and it's really random and kinda odd... I read this to prepare for the movie and was certain that they would match up. They don't match up... The first movie ends sometime in the beginning of the second book!

Quotes Sarah Liked

J.R.R. Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
