I love this world of Sharon Shinn's. It is not heavy reading, it is not deeply philosophical, despite the "religious" themes throughout. As a reader, you realize that the religion in the books was developed as a solution to a problem. At the heart of all the Samaria books, there is a love story, often between a very independent and stubborn heroine and a male angel. When it's the other way around, and it is in at least one or two cases, it's hard to envision because the thought of a female character being physically stronger than her counterpart is not a common theme. However, the love story is not the main story of the book but a satisfying accompaniment instead.
