really liked it
Read in October, 1990

This was briefly my favorite book. I loved Jane Eyre, the long-suffering heroine. I loved even the terrible plot twists and the tortured-happy ending. The only thing that changed was that I read Wide Sargasso Sea and that made me a little less wholeheartedly a fan of the colonialist jerk Mr. Rochester. And I discovered Jane Austen, and irony, and that changed things between Jane and I forever.
