Veronica's review
Eclipse (Twilight Series, Book 3) by Stephenie Meyer
I had expectations for this book, but I found it to be a terrible disappointment. Where to begin with?
First of all, I have lost most of the respect I had for Bella as a character. Her obsession for Edward has really gone overboard, to the point of becoming downright annoying, even unhealthy. She worships the ground he walks on, and is all too ready to dump her parents and friends just so she can spend more time with him without growing old. She doesn't seem to have any serious problem with the idea of making her parents worry, or the thought of never see them again... she's willing to stomp over anything that isn't Edward, even things that can enrich her life. She's like a satellite, her boring life revolving solely around him. She has no self-worth, and spends a good deal of the book whining, complaining and sighing, I really wanted to shake her hard at times and tell her to GET A LIFE.
I also find it deeply disturbing that Bella is not more repulsed by the idea of blood lust...more

I felt like all of Bella's emotions are typical of a teen. I remember feeling like i was going to just DIE - really cease to exist- when I had to break up with my boyfriend. It sounds dumb but it was so real to me at the time and Eclipse brought it all back for me.... So I think Stephanie Meyers has done a great job with this series. Check out her website for Edward's view point on meeting Bella if you haven't already. -Karrie
Hi Veronica,I really liked your review because it reflects everything I (and most sane readers) think about the book and its characters.
It annoyed me up to no point that Bella has developed from a pretty nice, interesting, nerdy, mature, book-loving girl into -- a nothing. Her whole character has changed into an average whiny teenage girl who just goes on about how great her boyfriend is.
I'll still be reading the 4th book, only because I want to know what happens to Jacob - and if Bella gets back to normal again.
To Karrie-
If this is true, than there are many different levels of emotion in teenagers. I could relate with NONE of her garbage about wanting to die when her boyfriend broke up with her. I couldn't identify, because I wasn't like that. You bring up an interesting point though, and it helps me understand why so many people find Bella's behavior acceptable.
