There was a time when I wolfed down books by Isaac Asimov, like an elephant in a donut shop. When I saw this one, the premise caught my eye and I was eager to give it a shot.

Here's the long and the short of it: A good short story does not a good novel make. What works in a single sitting simply doesn't have what it takes to last an entire novel. The idea of an entire apocalypse caused strictly by the onset of darkness is thrilling, of course, and right up until the moment that this darkness arrives, it is exciting and pulsating with energy.

And then, well... the second half of the book just keeps the words going. No new directions, no character development, no resolution, just... more words.
