This is one of my favorite Jude Deveraux books, and it continues to have magic after several readings.

Claire is a wealthy American who is supposed to marry a Scottish duke. She thinks they are marrying for love; he knows they are marrying so he can get her money. Claire and her family(parents and sister) travel to her future home to stay. While there, Claire discovers that Harry's family is very eccentric and they all follow the rule of Harry's mother, the Duchess. Her word is law and it soon becomes apparent that Claire will never truly be accepted as part of the family. While exploring the estate grounds, Claire meets a man who she first thinks is old, but then realizes has been sick and it relatively young. What doesn't know is that the man is Trevelyan, Harry's older brother that everyone believed was dead. He is also the real duke. As he and Claire spend time together they fall in love, but will that be enough to overcome all of the obstacles in their way?
