This reeled me in because it hints that the detective may be an aged Sherlock Holmes, and I *love* Holmes. Holmes or not, this guy was no disappointment, nor was the setting (mid-century English countryside) nor characters (an unlikely group of Europeans who find themselves together at an isolated inn in the English countryside). I thought the criminal plot was kind of thin but (in it's favor) it did center on a Nazi parrot, which can't fail to be at least a little interesting.
