bookshelves: book-club, fiction

This novel is sort of Nigerian - by a Nigerian woman (now living in the US), set in the Nigerian civil war, but published in America in English. Our book club selected it because we wanted to read something "foreign" ... for which this may or may not have qualified. In any case, I read hoping to be introduced to some new places, histories, and ways of seeing. That happened a little, but mostly I just got caught up in the wonderful characters and complications of their selves and relationships, which is probably a better reason to read this novel in the first place.
