** spoiler alert ** This was my favorite book when I was a child. Alvin Schwartz has created some of the most terrifying stories I have ever had the pleasure to read. Even at the age of twenty-eight, the creepy illustrations still have the power to make me shudder. THE BIG TOE is a classic "jump story" that will make you cringe...and laugh; THE HOOK is about a couple of teenagers who learn a maniac has escaped from the local prison; THE BABY-SITTER is a retelling of an urban legend that involves strange calls being made...from an upstairs bedroom, and
HIGH BEAMS is guaranteed to make you check the backseat of a car. There are many more spine-tingling tales to be found in this collection, and I cannot praise this book enough.
