I felt cheated, bottom line. This book did not make me happy. The writer never answered some major questions left over from the Mirador like who killed Mildmay's girlfriend from the first book. Did I miss that piece of info somewhere. As with the other books, I loved Felix and Mildmay's story of redemption and healing. To finally become real brother although they have no idea who their respective fathers' were. Also, Mildmay never found love. He deserved to be loved by someone. Felix had many lovers throughout the four books. Other than Gideon, all of them were bad for him but he had some variety. Mildmay just got the short end of the stick constantly. I felt that the ending did not resolve anything. I lost two nights of sleep reading this book and now want to burn it and find the real conclusion the writer must have stashed somewhere. She can't be so cruel as to leave this journey incomplete. I read several reviews that said the ending was satisfactory but it was not. My expectations were too high after reading the preceeding three. Oh well...

Emily I totally agree with you on the part of Mildmay deserving to be loved by someone. It seemed the book cheated Mildmay who truly deserved more then the world can give him.

jD I have not forgotten this series. I loved Felix and Mildmay's characters. Felix was so complex. As a matter of fact, I recently read The Steel Remains and found myself remembering this series. The books are not similar except for the level of flawed the heroes are.
