A wonderful parody/homage to the classic Hardy Boys adventures. Steve Brixton wants to be a detective and has read all The Bailey Brothers mysteries (numbers 1-59 on his list of "Fifty-Nine Greatest Books of All Time"). And it's lucky he is so prepared because one essay assignment and one attempted library book checkout later, he finds himself on the run from thugs, cops, and secret-agent librarians. It is not often that you get the pleasure of reading lines like: "Steve didn't like the thought of being mowed down by a bookmobile." Great recommendation for boys who liked the Hardy Boys (of course) and M.T. Anderson's Whales on Stilts and other "Pals In Peril" books.
