Shadowfever (Fever, #5)
by Karen Marie Moning
Wowza!
"Shadowfever" is the well waited conclusion of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series.
For those who have waited over the year mark for this to be released, you know what we all felt when the days to this release was closing in. The Fever series follows the life of MacKayla Lane, who's life from a young, pink loving girl, turns into out to be of the most powerful sidhe-seers ever. MacKayla or "Mac" has had a 180 turn in her life once her sister is murdered. Mac travels to Ireland to search for her sisters killer, but finds herself way in over her head.
I will try to make this a short, SPOILER FREE review, the more I write the more I'll want to babble about it, so I'll try to cut it short and sweet.
"ShadowFever" is the where the search of the Sinsar Dubh becomes final. The Sinsar Dubh is "an ageless Fae book of immense power that gives its reader the key to the Song of Making—the ability to create life. "
From book one, the Sinsar Dubh has been an extreme danger in the making. Twisting itself, causing havoc and reeking terror to all who come in contact with it. In "Shadowfever" we get the answers to so many questions we've had of the book and the characters.
Self discovery is a huge part in this series, but especially in this installment. Mac grows as a woman, and finally excepts her role she's destined to play in this life. I read a 'Dear authors' thoughts on "Shadowfever" and thought she was spot on to my thoughts of the mystery of ‘Is she, or Isn’t she’ and ' What is Mac?' Well we get the answers to that and more. At the ending "Dreamfever" I was begging to know what Barrons was. Was he what I thought? - From reading her Highlander series, I had an idea, but wasn't sure. Well we finally get an answer from Barrons, even if it's strangled, and forced. ;)
Yes, there was a lot to process, but it was to be expected with so many questions being asked though tout the series. Thankfully, "Shadowfever" was much longer than the previous novels in the series. The ending line.. The end.. for now.. was a bit unexpected. Yes, it's heard that she will be writing a spin off series of the Fever series, but Mac and Barrons story is ended, right? I hope not, but I suspect it is. *shrugs*
This is book you either loved or hated. (IMO) Thankfully, for me, it was love, but I could see how some might hate it, I suppose. Books with either love or hate as the base feelings are usually the best, -if loved that is-.
This is what Urban Fantasy is all about. Terror, Rage, Revenge, Mystery, Suspense and Romance. If you have yet to read the Fever series, then your in for a treat! Catch the Fever!

That's the end of that one, but I read somewhere that there's a spin-off or something. LOVED that book!! :)

This is the last book in the series, but the author is planning a spinoff featuring secondary characters. The first is supposed to be released in two years.(FWIW, Shadowfever is one of the best books I have ever read.)
