really liked it
bookshelves: mystery-thriller
Read in January, 2006

I read this one when it first came out (summer 2006, I think).

It reminded me of The Secret History, only with younger protagonists, and the adults as the malevolent presence.

There are plenty of twists to keep one entertained, the narrator is intelligent and resourceful, and there are even interesting references and footnotes throughout--like a thriller and encyclopedia in one!

I believe it was the author's debut, and I hope she doesn't try too hard on the second book, as so many who meet with success with their first novel seem to do.

Gloria I have this on my to-read shelf [I think I bought it largely because of the interesting cover:] and am happy to see that you thought it was worth the read. Now I'm not totally judging a book by its cover!
