Terrific book--sort of a "Johhny Tremaine" for the "Time Warp Trio" set...more action, more laffs, but just as much heart and historical adherence. A boy tries to save his brother from being illegally sold into the Union army, encounters lots of crazies and characters, both good and bad, finally finds the brother (on the Gettysburg battlefield!), exhibits some courage, spouts lots of great of-the-time slang, learns something about himself. I wish kids had to read stuff like this in school.
