This book was not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a coldly incisive glimpse into Japan's sex industry by way of a deranged serial killer. What I got was a muddled meditation on how gosh-darn LONELY folks in Japan are, and for that reason the narrator comes perilously close to agreeing with the killer's reasoning. If anything, the narrator demonstrates how numb he is to life around him. But this seemed an inadvertent point by the writer. Disappointing.
