Up until the last 25 pages or so, I thought I was going to give this book 2.5 or 3 stars. Having known nothing about the book whatsoever, I was more than surprised by the ending. Ultimately, I'm giving this book the most prestigious of presigiousness. :) Ultimately, this is what I would like to give my children. The confidence and clarity to be imaginative, creative, and clever. Jess is given a gift, he cultivates it in himself - not even knowing he has it until he finds himself alone. Then, he has the clarity to give that gift to someone else he loves. FABULOUS! I also apprectiate the symbolic Christ figure.

"It was up to him to pay back to the world in beauty and caring what Leslie had loaned him in vision and strength"
