This book is somewhat hard for me to classify because it has the feel of a historical fiction novel although it takes place in the not so distant future. The presence of the unconsecrated (aka zombies) does give the book its science fiction classification. As a fan of zombie related dystopian literature, I thought this was a good addition. The main character Mary is forced to make many difficult decisions that impact the fate of her little village (which is remniscient of M. Night Shyamalan's movie by the same name). This book had a more broad appeal because of the realistic/ historical fiction elements so I would recommend this to teens who enjoy all of those genres.
