really liked it
bookshelves: lit-sciencefiction

This is one of those humongous achievements of a book that makes your mind boggle - how did he write that? There are 6 narratives, BUT - you read one, and then it stops. You start to read the next one, which is a completely different voice in a completely different time, and then it stops. Basically, you're tunneling through, opening up narratives like the halves of Russian dolls, until you reach the innermost, whole narrative - then you get to read all the other halves. A friend told me she read it by reading all the narratives consecutively (rather than reading through the book), but I wouldn't recommend this. There's really cool connections throughout the narratives, especially once you reach the other side. It's not easy at first, but it's well worth the effort. A great read.
