I can't even count the number of people who have told me this book is their absolute favorite. While being rather captivating and original, I don't think it stands up to the praise it's received over the years. I'm curious how many people who are raving about it have read it recently or if they are just going by a memory. There is also a general anti-female tone that comes out occasionally, seemingly contradicting the rest of the story. I thought I was imagining it, but after some research it seems I'm not alone in that thought. Definitely a good book and definitely worth reading. If it weren't for the stellar ending this would have been a 3-star for me. Still debating whether or not to spend my time with the sequel.

Casey Girard the Sequel, which is a parallel story is better. Bean is the best character. it's worth it to hear his story.
