I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book, which typically means it takes me a while to get into it (I refuse to read dust-jackets or the backs of novels) but for this book, I was immediately hooked. It's written in a completely unique present-tense voice that I was surprised how much I enjoyed. I thought there was a good balance between action and everything else, for a book that was "about" these "Hunger Games" (don't want to give anything away!) they took up a perfect proportion of the book. The characters were well developed and well explained. It reminded me, for obvious reasons, of Ender's Game, but I found it a really original story. I thought it was a fascinating satire/social commentary, and I'm really excited to read the next book! I'm crossing my fingers for Katniss to find a way to thwart the council...It's a sign of a quality read when you've finished reading, but your mind hasn't finished digesting...
