Read in October, 2009

After reading a later book by Walter Mosley (Fortunate Son), I decided to take on the Easy Rawlins series. Easy Rawlins is an admirable, ethical man. His friend Mouse is a bit violent for my taste, but the books are proving to be great--and I like Easy more and more. Mouse reminds me of Myron Bolitar's Wyn, except, of course, Easy Rawlins and Mouse came first. Athough this book was published later, I had read that it was actually written first, and as far as Easy's life, it was first chronologically, so I started with this one.
One note of caution--recent reprints of the Easy Rawlins books begin with short stories. I made the mistake of reading the first one, and found it took place later in Easy's life, so it spoiled some of the chance to see his life unfold throughout the books. I'm going to read the rest of the short stories later.
