This historical novel is set during the French Revolution. We follow the life and adventures of André-Louis Moreau, an obscure country lawyer who tries to speak out against injustice, and then has to flee for his life. Luckily, his articulate and quick-witted personality serve him well as he becomes an acclaimed actor, politician, and fencing master. He wavers between cynicism and idealism. He confronts old enemies and old lovers. He continues to strive for justice. Though sometimes melodramatic and swashbuckling, the book was a fun read and gave some historical insights.
