Well, friends, believe it or not I've been experimenting with infrequent sobriety. And this book, well. It literally made me ill with not only the potential savage madness of alcohol, but of love, despair, aloneness, and other general insanity. And I mean all of this in a WONDERFUL, though BRUISING experience! SO, grab a fifth of E&J, pound it straight, and get sick with Fallada! If Burroughs gave us the word virus, then Fallada's The Drinker gives us the word DT's!

*For those of you unfamiliar, Fallada wrote in scrambled coded notebooks while imprisoned in a nazi insane asylum.
