Jack Grammar doesn’t have prom date. As a joke, his friends post a personal ad in the school newspaper, but girls do answer it. Now he has to narrow down the list. This was a fast, fun read. There were parts that made me laugh out loud, but It is your typical YA lit prom book. Smart nerdy boy needs a date, although it was refreshingly written from the boy’s perspective. The character of Jack seems realistic, but to me the rest of the characters are rather stereotypical. The “dates” Jack goes on are also predictable. I knew at some point he would end up with Natalie, I knew who “Fancypants” was, and I knew he would end up going out with at the end of the book. Middle school girls will love this book, some high schoolers may enjoy it, but many will probably think it rather juvenile. There are better books out there!
