This certainly was a strange little book. I wish I could have given it 3.5 stars instead of just 3 or 4. Aira is definitely trying to do something with literature that I've never seen before, some sort of crossover between painting theory, biography, fiction, and surrealism. Something like that. I was a huge fan of the first half of the text, all the way up to the "episode" referred to by the title, but things got complicated after that and it was more of a chore to get through. "Complicated" isn't exactly the right word to use...nothing really changes about the prose, but you know something has changed, just too much has happened, but things keep's a very weird feeling. I definitely want to read this again, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes experimental literature or breezy novellas.
