** spoiler alert ** A long wait for another Harper Connelly book, but it is worth it. Harper is again contacted to discover the dying thoughts of a millionaire rancher by his grandchildren. As she is accustomed to doing, she randomly gives freebie readings of others in the cemetery to prove her "gift". She steps on the grave of a hired hand, not part of the family, and casually remarks about the cause of death, which shocks the family.

Harper and Tolliver were raised as step-siblings, and now are a couple. Tolliver’s dad reappears on the scene after being released from jail and is staying with his other son Mark. Harper is still searching for her sister abducted eight years earlier, and still trying to maintain contact with their two younger sisters adopted by a nice family.

Tolliver is shot, then a police officer is shot, but Harper was really the target both times. The death of the police office and another private investigator and the reappearance of Tolliver’s dad is all connected. Harper gets a resolution to one mystery, more are introduced and answered.

Harris weaves an intriguing tale, but the resolution might mean the end of the series. I certainly hope not!
