I'm not a Philippa Gregory fan, but I was told I should give this book a chance. I was impressed with the first half - I enjoyed both the characterization and the writing style, the two things that have turned me off of her books in the past. Unfortunately, it didn't last. I like books that pick up steam as they go along, and this one did the opposite. By the end, the repetition was getting a bit much. Three stars for the characterization of Anne of Cleves; that was my favorite part.

Stephanie I liked it - I appreciated the chance at some rarely-seen POVs.

Heather Domin I read half of it last night. I'm really digging the characterization and the writing style, which are exactly the two things that turned me off of her previous books. That'll teach me not to generalize!

Stephanie I agree with you, I liked the Anne of Cleves stuff. I liked the Katherine Howard stuff, too. She made me laugh, because she really was very silly, but also very innocent.
