Not my favorite, but interesting because of its content and historical context. This known as the first lesbian title written for young adults. It was published in 1978. The very attractive Jaret and Peggy fall in love and when their love is exposed, they are victims of prejudice in their small New York town. There is a hard-to-take rape scene where a troubled, angry young man tries to cure Jaret of her attraction to women. The novel shows how the town deals (in good and bad ways) with the aftermath of the violence, and how the girls' relationship changes because of the events.
