This is a solid 40K marine story from Dan Abnett. I was waffling between 3 and 4 stars and went with 4 since my copy is signed by Dan Abnett.
What I like is that Abnett does Space Marines better than anyone else. In this book and also in the Heresy series, he is able to convey the super-human nature of the Marines that is sometimes missing in other authors portrayals. The actions scenes are great as always and really give a feeling of being in the chaos of battle.
My only criticism is that the book feels a little like a collection of short stories rather than a novel. There is a plot thread that ties everything together but it really is a series of stories following the progression of the Damocles squad of the Iron Snakes over a period of 10 years or so.
