Fascinating reading, for not only the great insights into memory, 'bad' thinking, hypnosis, magic etc, all of which Derren covers briefly but informatively, but also for the insights into the man's character and the great sense of humour that runs throughout.

Whilst Derren's TV persona can stray towards the irritating end of the smug, self-satisfied spectrum, on paper his irreverent style frequently made me chuckle.

For anyone who wonders 'how does he do that?' and actually wants to know, this book provides only hints at the answers, but of course to do otherwise would spoil the fun. For those interested in what's going on in our heads that allows Derren to do what he does, this is a perfect primer (and one that has an excellent suggested reading list for those left wanting more).
