I picked this up on a whim 'cause it looked like it would be a fun, light read, and I was right. The setting, which is done well, is 19th century Europe with magic thrown into the mix. Wrede has both a good grasp of Victorian syntax and a way with witty turns of phrase which make her writing quite entertaining. I managed, however, to miss the fact that this is book 2 in a 3 book series, but the story is written in such a way that it was unaffected by being read out of sequence. Nevertheless, I've already bought the other two and plan on reading them at some point in the not too distant future.
