I really like the way Lowry tells this story from the perspective of the child, Annemarie. You can truly feel the sense of innocence in a situation that was anything but. Annemarie shows extraordinary heroism and selflessness in this book. In my school this book is a required reading for the 5th graders and the students really love it. I know the teachers do vocabulary assignments with this and I help them find out more facts about the resistance movement in the library.
