it was amazing
bookshelves: teaching
read count: 5

I recently used this book to support English Language Learners in a third grade classroom. The sophistication of the plot is a challenge in and of itself (it's taken every adult I know a few slow looks at it to really get it). When the problem of decoding text is eliminated, as it is in this book, the reader is pushed to use a wide array of reading strategies: asking questions, making predictions, looking back in the book, etc. Because of this book I was able to see two young boys, who cannot usually read many books independently, utilize complex reading strategies and become more confident as readers.
