Anderson succeeds in painting a acerbically funny picture of high school, of it's hypocrisies, cliques, and students without seeming overly stereotypical. More important, and more impressive, is that Anderson succeeded in writing a convincing, moving account of one girl's struggle to recover after IT (as the protagonist calls the experience) amidst the normal obstacles of high school.
